Your Cutting Board
What kind of cutting board do you use in your kitchen?
What you are using may be affecting your health.
A recent study of plastic cutting boards by Prof. Amber
Pete, Missouri University of Science and Technology, and
Prof. Christie Sayles, Baylor University, found that around
1114 bits of plastic microfibers less than 5 millimeters
were found in each session of use. Sounds small, right?
However, this can add up to 30 grams per year, equal to
10 credit cards worth of microfibers. Even though doctors
have discovered microfibers in various parts of human
bodies, not enough research has been done to tie them to
specific illnesses — yet.
Given the plastic bits from air, water, soil, food containers
and warming food in plastic, it might be best to trade in
that plastic cutting board for one made from rubber,
silicone, bamboo or the traditional wood. See source for
pros and cons.
