LAUNDRY AND DISH SOAP PODS

Someone asked our TEST group if these popular pods were OK for the environment. The short answer is no.  These pods are coated in a very thin layer of plastic that dissolves in water. However, it just breaks down into tiny particles that add to the accumulated microplastics in our water. There have been some cases of sticky residue build-up in plumbing. These  pods can cause children and pets harm if mistaken for candy. Besides detergent, pods often contain chemicals to add scents, soften fabrics and get out stains---all toxic. Fortunately, there are some good alternatives. Soap sheets (post card size) have no plastic coating, cone in a lightweight cardboard box that is recyclable. Even  traditional soap brands now have sheet soaps. Second best is powdered soap. Try a refill store if you use liquid soap in a plastic jug.
