CELEBRATING SAINT FRANCIS

The Season of Creation ends with the celebration of the life of St. Francis. He has been called the patron saint of the environmental movement because he recognized the earth’s role in sustaining life by calling her “Mother Earth“ and the sun, moon, wind, water and fire as siblings to humankind. If all Creation is one family, surely caring for Creation should become as natural as caring for our own human families.

In another prayer, Saint Francis asks God to become an instrument of peace and to sow love where there is hatred, show pardon where there is injury, have faith where doubt is all around, to remain hopeful when despair is near, to reflect God’s light in a dark world and to be filled with God’s joy that overcomes the world’s sadness.

Help us to also ask God to become instruments of peace.

Earth Steward Action:  Meditate on the prayers of St. Francis.
