SAVING ENERGY DURING HOT WEATHER
Most of us will be faced with a larger than usual bill for electricity this month due to the heat wave. There are ways we can save money and the environment too.
Is your house properly insulated? Are your windows and doors sealed? Is your air conditioner in good shape? Changing the filter once a month helps efficiency. Closing blinds and drapes helps keep the house cooler. A fan can help you keep the thermostat higher — just one degree matters. Do your windows need an upgrade? If you can, adding solar will help. Some U.S. states allow plug-in solar devices which may be a first step toward larger solar arrays. These small panels may save $10 to $15 a month. They are not legal in Kansas yet, but may be worth checking out. Electricity bills will continue to be high as our planet continues to warm.
