Detox Your Home – Some Helpful Tips

Our environment is often full of toxins that sneak their way

into our homes. Here are tips from the Environmental

Working Group:

● Bust the dust. Use microfiber dust cloths, vacuum

frequently with a HEPA sweeper, change furnace

filters often, leave street shoes at the door, mop the

floors frequently and consider a HEPA filtered air

purifier.

● Be wary of product frangrances. Manufactureres

can use “fragrance” and skip listing the chemicals

used – some may cause asthma, disrupt hormones

and lead to cancer. Air sprays, car scents and

scented candles are the worst offenders. Use

essential oils sparingly.

● Avoid plastics. Plastic bits slough off from cutting

boards, leach into microwaved food in plastic and

from plastic water bottles. Reduce takeout containers

(bring your own), say no to plastic straws and use

silicone bags instead of plastic bags and wrap.
