What is COP30: COP stands for the Conference of
Parties (official representatives of about 200 countries)
that meet yearly to address climate issues. The UN
organizes the conferences. Thousands of others also
attend (scientists, industrial and business & more). COP30
meets in Belém, Brazil, Nov. 11 to 21.
COP 30 Goals: Emphasis is on adaptation and mitigation
projects, stronger accountability measures, more financial
support and equity for developing countries and urgently
working to speed up efforts to limit greenhouse gas
emissions to tame rising climate disruption.
Facts Facing COP30: 2024 was the warmest year on
record. We are greatly increasing greenhouse gas
emissions. Carbon dioxide in our atmosphere is now at
422 parts per million. President Trump officially pulled the
United States out of the Paris Accord and favors extractive
energy sources. Individual states support the Paris
Accords and will attend COP 30.
